I Suffer from Allergies. Is Genesis Bamboo Flooring going to help with my condition?

Science has recently discovered that Volitile Organic Compound (VOC) levels in indoor air are becoming dangerously high. Prolonged exposure to VOC emissions can cause symptoms such as:

  • Conjunctival (eye) irritation;
  • Nose, throat discomfort;
  • Headache;
  • Allergic skin reaction;
  • Dyspnea (shortness of breath);
  • Nausea, emesis;
  • Fatigue;
  • Epistaxis (nosebleed) and
  • Dizziness

Governments around the world are now enforcing clean air policies which are limiting the amount of VOC emissions household products can emit. Samples of outdoor air in major cities globally returned results of 0.03ppm of VOC’s.
Genesis Bamboo emits less than 0.02 ppm (parts per million) of VOC which is lower than natural outdoor air results giving Genesis Bamboo an effective Zero emission. It is the only bamboo sold in Australia that passes all of the most stringent world EPA limits such as:

  • Japanese JIS/JAS(4star) – 0.03ppm
  • Californian Carb phase 1 – 0.08ppm
  • Californian Carb phase 2 -0.05ppm
  • European EO -.005ppm
  • Australian SUPER E0- 0.03ppm

What’s the difference between Hot pressed & Cold Press Manufacturing process?

There are two different processes for manufacturing Strand Woven Bamboo flooring– Either Hot press or Cold press technology. We have produced our floors with the superior hot press process. Hot pressed boards are cut from whole blocks of strand woven bamboo. The original block is solid with no joins within the whole structure. This ensures that there are no cold joints in the individual floor boards which is common to the cold pressed method. Cold pressed boards have joins in the individual floor boards which are substantially weaker than hot pressed bamboo. These cold joints can later weaken and split. The hot press process also produces natural variation between planks which gives our floors a more natural Australian flavor.

Which Click System do you use?

We use a patented click system on both the long and short side of our flooring. The short ends feature a drop lock system which means there is no need to use a hammer during installation. This modular click system allows for easy installation for DIY to professional installers and halves installation times compared to other systems.

Why are the tongue and groove waxed?

Genesis Bamboo is the only bamboo flooring that fully waxes both the long and short side of the board. This eliminates creaking in the joints which is common to floating floors and also adds water resistance to the flooring.

How much VOC does Genesis Strand Woven Bamboo emits?

All bamboo products are laminated, and the industry standard for this laminating process has long mandated the use of urea-formaldehyde adhesives. All urea-formaldehyde adhesives emit formaldehyde which is a VOC; however, Genesis’s proprietary manufacturing adhesives emit just 0.02 ppm (parts per million) or less. This is significantly less than allowable by all world standards, including Australian Standard E0, U.S. OSHA, German E0, Californian CARB Phase 1 and Phase 2, and the world’s most stringent Japanese JIS/JAS (F4star) emissions standard of 0.03ppm. Formaldehyde is present in the air that we breathe at natural background levels of about 0.03 ppm so the emissions from Genesis Strand Bamboo of 0.02ppm is effectively a zero emission limit.

Why is Genesis Bamboo Flooring the hardest in the world?

Hardness is the main factor in durability. The hardness of bamboo flooring can be relatively soft or hard in comparison to other woods, and is dependent on three main factors – the species of bamboo used, its age at harvest and the climate in which it is grown.
There are many different varieties of bamboo within China. We specify only the hardest Mosa bamboo species (phyllostachys pubescens) . Our Mosa bamboo is grown in the coldest northern region of China, which produces a longer growth rate due to the colder climate. This in turn ensures a much lower moisture content in the growth phase and maximum density at harvest time. We only harvest the bamboo at full maturity, between (5 1/2 – 6 years) . Research has shown that this is the time when fiber density is at its peak. In contrast, softer species are generally harvested at 4 ½ years.
The manufacturing process also impacts on the hardness of the flooring. By Strand weaving the fibers, it ensures the flooring is by far the hardest and most stable of all bamboo flooring. In fact, it is twice as hard as vertical or horizontal bamboo flooring and more dimensionally stable.
